NOTE: this post is from 2009, but I have briefly updated the parts that became outdated.
- Krauch, January 2011.Fantazjada is a big (for about 300+ players nowadays) LARP, taking place near Wrocław, in Fortress Silberberg (Srebrna Góra, that is
here), Lower Silesia, Poland, on 23-26. June 2011. Monday 27. June will be additional attractions dedicated.
Being one of Poland\'s most old and most big LARP, Fantazjada takes place in 250- years old forts, ruins and vast forests.
No alcohol at game time, and on camp!
Accomodation: camping ground will be available for players next to one of the forts. Bring your own tents (preferrably historical). There is electricity and water available on fort and shops in the town 20 min. away. Srebrna Góra is only 27 km from the Czech border!
It\'s difficult to describe what Fantazjada exactly is, but we will do our best:
General info, character creation, and freedom of decision General you can imagine Fantazjada like RPG on live. Before start, you are creating your character (his history, motivation, etc.). Generally, you have a freedom of choice and creation (in a boundries of convention- see next paragraph). Character could be created before Fantazjada, via e-mail, but it is not arbitrary (altough we\'re insisting on it , especially if you are not speaking Polish). In Srebrna Góra you will have short, individual, fabular briefing with one person from HQ. During the game, you have complete freedom of decision- you can interact with other players and NPC\'s, make alliances, fight, steal, kill and do everything you want (in a boundries of convention and safety rules). Be warned however, that other players may respond on your actions as well, and each decision may cause a consequences for your chracter. Example: you may rob a barman, but there will be propably some law- enforcing fraction in the game\'s world, and such action may result in imprisoning of your character. All physical actions, such as combat, magic or theft are described in our rules. \"Safe violence\" - is our policy in such cases.
Game\'s moodFantazjada\'s mood is in general a classic fantasy- if you\'ve read some of Tolkien or Sapkowski [-most popular polish fantasy writer, could be familiar to you as writer of \"Witcher\", popular computer RPG. By the way, Fantazjada\'s mood is a bit similar to that of Witcher\'s world], you will have no trouble\'s in entering the Known World. Currently, we are about Middle Ages, in relation to real- world\'s history.
You will find there some low- fantasy motives, such as intrigues, politics, crime, drugs, and xenophoby. Known World\'s geography and history are in many ways inspired by real (historical, but also modern) facts, similar as in Warhammer RPG.
Generally, Fantazjada\'s scenario is multilinear- there are many topics, quest\'s and each player\'s story will be different. There are some main scenary lines, but it is affected by a large number of events, and no player is forced to \"play in main line\".
RulesAll physcial actions in the game are limited by our rules, to assure safety and good fun to all players. Before detailed explanations, some general remarks.
There is no gamemaster! There are no dice! There is nobody who will describe: \"You see a crystal pallace\". Each element of gameplay (except magic, which is symbolical), has a manifestation in real world. If you like to play troubadour, you need to take some instrument and really play/ sing something. Otherwise nobody will ever notice that you are a musician! (from the same reason, creating long, detailed character\'s history it\'s not a good idea- only elements which have impact on your gameplay have a chance to be noticed in the game\'s world).
Character creation
You will have a choice of skills (such as fighting with weapons in both hands, stunning etc.) You need to also pick your character\'s race (Human, Orc, Elf, Dwarf), race could have impact on accesible skills. After this you will have set a number of your hit points. And thats all, from a technical part. Rest (such as your proffesion, origin, etc) is a fabular part, and its depending on your acting, costume, etc.
Moderators
They can epxlain you the rules, judge combat, explain the effects of spell or curse casted by you (or on you...). Moderators have special badges, what they\'re saying should be treaten as \"out of game\" remarks. We try to keep this to a minimum. Sometimes moderators may act like NPC\'s.
Melee Combat
We are fighting with use of latex/ PVC-and-foam weapons (you can see it on our movies or photos). Striking the head, neck or groin is not allowed. Hits in the feets and fingers are not counted. We also do not allow stabs, for safety reasons, unless the has explicitly been allowed to stab. Blade has to move for at least 80 cm in the air before hit. And one more thing... Safe swords are safe (they do not cause damage to players), but it doesnt mean that hits coud not cause any pain! It\'s similar to paintball in this case.
Distance Combat
We use bows (real) and safe arrows. You need to have your own arrows. Arrow\'s safety must be checked by organizers before the game. Maximal allowed power of bow is 15 kg
Magic
Rules are secondary to role-play and creativity. There are no prescribed spells; what a mage can do, depends on the school of magic he or she studies (one of six: Life, Death, Matter, Mind, Power, Time), level within that school... And, mostly, the mage\'s own creativity and intelligence. More details on request.
Theft
You can steal (and give back after game, of course) from other players/ NPC\'s only items from the games world- safe swords, arrows, magic scrolls, game\'s money etc. You cannot steal any real world items, money or parts of costume. Some special marked safe weappon, aren’t allowed to steal.
Game\'s World Fantazjada\'s action is taking place in the Known World. It has been described on our website, but unfortunately, there is no English, Czech or German version (yet). As it was said before, it is classic low-fantasy world, and you should have no troubles with adapting. There are some countries/ civilizations inspired by real world\'s history, it may help you in creating your character.
Religions (and civilizations):
Church of Amman - inspired by medieval Chrystianity. Amman has lived about 500 years ago, and he is considered a founder of modern civilization. His role in establishing first human cities is unquestioned, just like his fight against hordes of monsters and demons of Zachagan in these times (...Be silent.. is there any Inquisition agent?... ok... He was most known hero, but not only one.... ). Dominating religion on Continent, especially in Antaly, where is not very tolerant for other point of views. In Antaly, Inquisition is a very powerfull organisation. Practiced, in less agressive form, in Hammerstein and western Polis (city- countries), such as Torreno, without significant influence on politics and public life there. Originated from Realm of The Hill, where currently Signuritism, tolerant and phylosophical brunch of this religion is practiced.
Old Faith- Religion older than human civilization practiced im many, loosly connected forms on all Continent. Believs of druids, pagan rituals, witches sorcery- all are originated from Old Faith (even if some of followers are not aware of it). Always connected with powers of nature and year cycle. Some of their celebrities could be terryfing for accidental witnesses. And some are very similar Zachagan\'s rituals.
Commonly practiced in rustical areas in a form of traditions. Old Faith is officially proclaimed as a heresy by Church of Amman (but stakes are burning only in Antaly, almost...). Oldest church of Amman (Realm of The Hill) after Signur\'s reformation, is very tolerant about witches.
Followers of Zachagan- Zachagan is considered a lord of all deamons, his followers are praying for coming of the dark lord and end of huma era. Ok... Maybe some of them want “just” to make some deal with the deamons, but followers of this infernal religion are hunted in all civilized parts of Known World. Those, who praise the deamons, are always conspired, and often has a high rank in human sociaty. Little bit of history: After fall of Argos (great, ancient civilization which has oppened the Portals), Zachagan has taken world as his dominion, but he was defeated by human heroes- Amman, Temezerus and others (of course, saying that there were \"others\" except Amman could make you some troubles in Antaly).
Temezerianism- more philosophical system, then religion (inspired by Confuscionism), founded by great hero Temezerus. Practiced in organised form only in Stronghold of Temezerus. Ascese, meditation, mastering magic and martial skills- This is the way of followers of Temezerus.
Religion of Southern Emirate- Poorly known in Known world ( for sure monoteistic). As you can guess, inspired by Islam.
